I Have Evidence! Virtually Anyone Can Understand My Articles

Though only the really smart can understand my homepage:

These are screenshots of Critics Rant! Readability Test. I think they are using a text analyzer like the one word processors use, but I’m not sure how they convert that into levels.

For fun, I tried to get all the levels I could from blogs and websites that I love to visit.

Here is what I found:

Elementary School

BetterExplained

Junior High School

AssetBuilder

High School

Pure Pedantry

College (Undergrad)

MathTrek

College (Postgrad)

Economist

Genius

EasyBib

The biggest surprise is Easybib, a free bibliography composer, because it’s so simple to use. I would put the website at a junior high level at the most.

I imagine the rating for websites change depending on what content is displayed. I’m hoping to keep my articles nice and simple so that everyone can understand them.

Where does your website rank?

Oh, and one note of caution. If you don’t see your comment posted, it probably was labeled spam, so send me an email and I’ll fix it.

Wow, didn’t realize where the site ranked, thanks for checking! I’m actually happy about the low reading level — it goes along with the goal of keeping things simple :) .

@Kalid: I agree with your reasoning. Keep up the good articles :)

My blog was rated “junior high level.” I’m not too surprised. They say the average American adult reads at the 6th grade level so that makes my blog pretty accessible.

@Asad: That’s interesting trivia about the average reading level.

I thought we were putting the easy in bibliographies! haha!

@Neal: Haha, you guys are. You’ve saved me countless hours worrying about where to put stupid punctuation ;) As my alter ego The Calculating Guru would say, the brain is made for thinking.
