I like Pollan's advice too--I liked his book "In Defense of Food." My problem is that advice probably isn't aggressive enough. I mean, there are a lot of products masquerading around as real food. It's easy to give into temptation. Plus, I found myself eating far too unhealthy after reading Pollan's book...

Ultimately we need to focus on a plan that can bring us to good health. For me, I ate junk food for many years so I find myself being a little more strict about food and my doctor and lab results have confirmed I'm on the right track...

Thanks for the comment.

Sorry to add a comment months after, but just if anybody reads comments after me:

Did everybody forget that our body can turn just anything into anything? Our liver is one big laboratory to synthesize anything needed. Is it fat, check, is it sugar, check, some hormone? Already in the bloodstream.

Walk every day some mile, sleep with lower temperatures (if you like it), eat what Pollan advises (specifically the notion only to eat what our great grandmother would recognise as food) and mix up everything to withstand addictions or monotony.

Oh, and wear clothes that cover evenly. The skin compensates exposition with thicker fat layers.

Thats it. I just discovered your blog and i will follow it the next month. I think i could learn from it.

Thanks Presh for shedding light on this confusing but important topic of fat content. Percentage of calories derived from fat. Mmm.. food for thought. GD.

Pratik: That article is interesting. Companies will do interesting things to exploit their brand. I heard of:

1. Contact lens companies branding 2-week contacts as single-use (sell each for less, but sell more of them)

2. Generics actually being the same as brand names--for drugs or food.

I think the field is loosely about "imperfect competition," an interesting mix of game theory and macroeconomics.

Agreed! The same applies to other nutritional information on food labels here in England as well

http://pratiksrandomwalk.blogspot.com/2007/10/being-discriminated-against-is-good-for.html

was my first real attempt to write it down, based on price elasticities.
