Mark W.

One interesting thing to note about the benefit of exercise...at least in areas where it gets really cold, you'd have a penalty for being exposed to the weather. So, I know that's only complicating things, but I wonder if the algorithm could account for shelters that have heat / shielding from the wind.

Late entry here Presh. I LOL about the bus-wait formula - got to hand it to those college students. I looked over the pdf file. So while I agree with the results of lazy and punctuality, I didn't see any reference to the benefits of walking (exercise) here in this study.

Great point--swoopo is susceptible to collusive bidders...but even if one bidder escalated (perhaps even the own site's illegal bid) then the game could be profitable again.

Wow, "swoopo.com" does sound like a pretty terrible site, in terms of finding a deal. I like the analysis on the blog you linked to, specifically that you might get an item for $30 cheaper then what you'd find at a store...but if you've placed less then 40 bids for the item.

Oddly enough, I wonder how that site would fare if the bidders could communicate with each other, especially if they want to cooperate....
